What is free, how to fly it, and how to lock in the bonus afterward.
During a Free Fly, RSI unlocks a set of ships everyone can fly for free, no purchase. Which ships depends on the event. Here is how it works and how to make the most of it with the referral code attached.
Which ships are free?
It varies by event. A themed Free Fly (like Invictus or a manufacturer showcase) unlocks a curated roster, often a couple of dozen ships across roles: fighters, haulers, explorers, multi-crew. The exception is the IAE in November, when historically the entire flyable fleet is free, from the cheapest starter to capital ships. RSI publishes the exact roster on its Fly Free page for each event.
How to fly them
- Make your account with STAR-JTV7-FXLR
Sign up via the enlist link. Free, and the code attaches for later.
- Install the RSI Launcher
Download and patch to the current build (Alpha 4.8). During the Free Fly the promoted ships appear in your in-game rentals at no cost.
- Claim and fly
Pull the free ships from the in-game terminal or your account, and go fly. When the event ends you lose access to the free ones, but your account and the attached code stay.
The free ships are temporary, but the 50,000 UEC from the referral code is not. If you decide to buy a Starter Pack ($40+), the bonus credits because STAR-JTV7-FXLR is already on your account.
Best starter to buy after trying the free ones
Flying the free roster is the best way to pick your first real ship. Most new players land on the cheapest qualifying pack, the Citizen Starter Pack at $45 (RSI Aurora Mk II), and upgrade in-game from there. Which starter pack is best for you.
